Morris Micklewhite and the Tangerine Dress

“Morris Micklewhite and the Tangerine dress”, written by Christine Baldacchino and illustrated by Isabelle Malenfant is the name of the book we read for our picture book blog today. This book started by with a little boy named Morris, who liked to wear dresses. Morris especially loved to wear this tangerine dress and his favourite shoes that click when he walks. One day Morris decided to wear his favourite dress to school. Sadly all of his classmates made fun of him and they wouldn’t let him play with them. One day Morris got a stomach ache because he was getting bullied. While Morris was sick he had a dream about him going to space in his rocket ship while he was wearing his dress and he saw a whole bunch of animals. This dream made him realise that wearing his dress was cool. The next day he went to school wearing his dress and the kids still wouldn’t let him play with them. So Morris decided that he can just make up his own game. The other kids realized that he was a really cool kid and they all became friends again. In my opinion I think that this book is written for all ages because it spreads a lot of awareness. I thought that this was a really great book.

Kindness #3

For my third act of kindness I put away a whole bunch of laundry away for my mom. I chose this act of kindness because she was very tired after a long day. This act of kindness made me feel really happy and warm inside and it made my mom feel very very happy because she got to watch netflix and go to bed early.

Kindness #2

For my second act of kindness I cooked dinner for my mom when she was sick and really stressed. I chose to do this act of kindness because I wanted her to feel better and I also didn’t want her to have to cook for my whole family. This made me feel joyful because I was doing something nice for her instead of her doing something nice for me. This made my mom ecstatic because she wasn’t feeling great and said she was not hungry but after she ate she felt a lot better. After seeing how happy my mom was when I cooked for my mom it really made me want to do it more often.

Kindness #1

For my first act of kindness I shoveled the snow off of my sidewalk when it was my brothers turn. I chose this act of kindness because my brother was busy doing lots of homework. This act of kindness made me feel cheerful but it also made me happy because after my brother was done we got to play in the snow together. I think that this made my brother feel thankful and appreciative. Even though I am doing these acts of kindness for a project it definitely makes me want to continue them once I am done.

“Two”

“Two” written and illustrated by Kathryn Otoshi is the name of the book we read for our picture book blog this week. The book starts with two best friends whose names are one and two. One and two are best friends who can always count on each other, until one day three come along and asks if one wants to play with three because they are both odd numbers. One goes and plays with three wich leaves two sad and alone. The other even numbers go up to two and ask what is wrong, she tells them that one left her to go play with three. All of the even numbers get into a fight with the odd numbers and two gets really mad that this has happened so she asks if everybody can just get along and odds and evens can be friends. At the end of the book they throw a party and one and two become friends again. I think that this book is written for little kids who are having friendship problems. This is a great book to teach kids that everybody can be friends.

“One”

“One” written and illustrated by Kathryn Otoshi is the book we read for our picture book blogs today. The book starts out with different blobs of colours. Red is always being mean and bullying blue but none of the other colours ever stand up to red, they just sit there and laugh with red. One day one comes along and stands up to red. One tells all the other colours to stop laughing and start standing up to red. Red gets really mad that they don’t think it is funny anymore. They talk to blue and they all turn into numbers. They eventually talk to red and he turns into a number too.  I Think that this book is great book because it raises awareness for bullying and that you have to stand up for your friends and peers. In my opinion this book should be more popular because it shows kids to be nice and to stand up to people.

“Ivan The Remarkable True Story of the Shopping Mall Gorilla” written by Katherine Applegate and illustrated by G. Brian Karas is the name of the book we read for our picture book blog this week. This is a very sad but equally inspiring book. This book starts off with two gorillas named Burma and Ivan they were captured and sent over to tacoma washington. The owner of the mall bought them so that they could live in his mall and attract tourist so that they could live in the mall. Sadly Burma didn’t end of surviving. Ivan lived in the mall for 27 years before people started to realize that this was wrong. Almost everybody started protesting to get Ivan out. Finally the owner of the mall decided to sell him to a zoo in atlantic because people stopped coming to his mall. In my opinion this book should be for all ages because it spreads awareness about poaching animals. This book was a very inspiring at it makes me want to spread more awareness about animal poaching.

Nerdy Birdy Tweets

“Nerdy Birdy Tweets” written by Aaron Reynolds and illustrated by Matt Davies is the name of the book we read for our picture book blogs. This book is about two birds. One of the birds is a vulture and the other one is a nerdy bird. Nerdy bird loves video games. Vulture hates video games but he loves eating dead animals. These two birds are very different but they also happen to be best friends. One day they are hanging out on their favourite telephone pole eating lunch. When they are together they are always really goofy. One day nerdy bird finds a new app where you can get new friends and tweet to say anything you want. Vulture hates this app because his friend is always using it. So oneday Vulture decides to make an account. Vulture starts to love the app but than one day Nerdy Bird took an embarrassing photo of Vulture than tweeted it. Vulture got really mad and ran away from Nerdy Bird. Nerdy Bird realised that it was a really bad idea. So he went to find his friend. Finally Nerdy Bird found Vulture. He apologized and they became friends again. Vulture and Nerdy Bird started compromising on what they would do together so sometimes they would eat dead animals and sometimes they would play video games. This book was a picture book and I think the story would be more for little kids to teach them about friendship and how to be safe on the internet.

What To Do With An Idea

“What Do You Do With An Idea” written by Kobi Yamada and illustrated by Mae Besom was the book we read for our picture book blog this week. This book was a very fun and inspiring book. This book was about a little kid who had an idea. He kept on trying to walk away from his idea and forget it. But his idea just kept on coming back to him. The boy felt happier when it was around. He was very very nervous to tell people his idea because he was worried what people will think about it. One day he finally built up the courage to tell people his idea. Everyone told him his idea was bad and that he should just forget it. The boy started to believe them but than he started to wonder why he should listen to them. The one day hi idea changed. The idea was no longer just part of the boy but it was part of everything. I really really enjoyed this book because it tells people that if you have an idea you should share it with the world. I think that even though this book is a picture book it is good for all ages because it sends a good message. I really really enjoyed this book!

Chopsticks

“Chopsticks” written by Amy Krouse Rosenthal and illustrated by Scott Magoon, is the name of the book we read for our picture book blog. This book is a sequel to the book we read last week for our picture book blog. This book is about chopsticks who were best friends. One day the chopsticks were learning how to do new culinary tricks. Then suddenly one of the chopsticks snaps. All of the utensils rush over and make sure he is ok. They quickly whisk him off to the hospital. The other chopstick doesn’t know what to do all alone so he just stays in the hospital with the other chopstick for a whole week. Eventually the chopstick who was injured said to the other chopstick that he should go out and do something alone. So that’s what he did. When copstick got out of the hospital and he was reunited with the other chopstick their friendship was stronger and better than ever. At the end of the book they all have a welcome home party for chopstick. This book is a picture book and I think that it would be good for kids in kindergarten to kids in grade three. I thought that this book was a very funny book.
